Another airline is moving from Tokyo Narita to Haneda.
British Airways is combining its business in Tokyo. The airline has said that starting in March, it will move all of its operations in Tokyo to Tokyo Haneda International Airport, which is much closer to the city centre.
At the moment, the airline has two flights a day from London Heathrow (LHR) to Tokyo, one to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and one to Tokyo Narita (NRT) (NRT). As GSTP was the first to report, BA will move all of its Tokyo operations to HND, which will give it two nonstop flights a day between London and Haneda starting on March 28.
"We are excited to be adding a second daily flight into Tokyo Haneda Airport, where our partner JAL operates most of its domestic flights," British Airways told TPG. "Our customers can look forward to better connections between the U.K. and Japan, faster access into Tokyo, and newly remodelled partner lounges at Haneda."
Between the two frequencies, BA will use both a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and a 777, which is what it uses now to fly from LHR to HND. Notably, the airline won't put one of its new Airbus A350 planes on the route. These planes have the airline's newest business-class product, called Club Suite. Because of this, passengers can expect to get one of the airline's older Club World seats.
Overall, British Airways' decision to move its Tokyo operations to Haneda is good for travellers who want an easier way to get into Tokyo's city centre. To compare, it will take at least an hour and a half to drive from Narita to the city centre, and it could take much longer. Haneda will take between 30 and 45 minutes, depending on how busy the roads are.
Delta Air Lines said in August 2019 that it was moving its hub from Tokyo Narita to Tokyo Haneda.
